One major setback for DisplayPort is that it does not support return audio. That is despite the fact that it can run multiple channels simultaneously. HDMI, on the other hand, supports return audio.
Another major difference between DisplayPort and HDMI is the fact that the latter is rather limited in terms of the length of cable that you can have. With DisplayPort, however, it is possible for you to run a cable of up to 15m, although you would have to scale back the resolution to 1080 in order to do so.
