Computers are all around us, and they perform a wide range of tasks that make our lives easier. However, for all the hard work that they do, computers are not infallible. Over time, they become prone to errors that can slow them down or, in the most extreme of circumstances, even cause them to stop working altogether. Windows comes with two useful utilities, ScanDisk and Disk Defragmenter, which have been designed to identify and fix these errors, in order to keep your computer working as it should.

Take Care Of Your PC’s Drivers

Before dwelling on how you can run ScanDisk and Defrag, it is worth pointing out that another source of the problems that most people encounter with their PCs are drivers. Drivers are pieces of software that have been designed for the sole purpose of facilitating communication between a computer’s hardware and its Operation System. Without them, the OS would not be able to identify hardware components, such as mice, keywords, HDDs, motherboards and all the other items that constitute the physical parts of a computer.

Scan, Review And Update Your PC’s Drivers With SafeBytes DriverAssist.

While it is possible to manually update each of your computer’s drivers, this is clearly not a viable option. The best way of keeping the drivers that are on your computer up to date is through the use of SafeBytes DriverAssist. DriverAssist is a safe to use, lightweight device driver manager that has been designed to work in the background to identify all the drivers that are out of date, download the latest versions and update them, without your even noticing that it is doing all the hard work. Best of all, DriverAssist also comes with Full Backup and Restore, as well as Safe USB Management and Eject.

Running ScanDisk and Defrag

To run either ScanDisk or Defrag in Windows 8, 8.1 and 10, all that you need to do is double click on  “This PC,”  which you can usually find on your desktop. In the window that comes up, right click on the disk that you want to scan or defragment. Click on “Properties” to open the disk’s properties. Click on the “Tools” tab, and you will see two options, marked “Error Checking,” and “Optimize and defragment driver,” respectively. The error checking option runs ScanDisk, while the other option runs the defragmenter.

The above steps are, more or less, the same for Windows XP and Windows 7, save for the fact that you need to open “My Computer,” which Microsoft later renamed to This PC in later versions of its Operation System.

Keep Your System Running With DriverAssist

As mentioned earlier, another way through which you can keep your computer running smoothly is by making sure that all the drivers that are on it are kept up to date. DriverAssist is an automatic driver installation utility that comes with Driver Intelligence and Smart Device Identification. It does the hard work in the background to keep your computer running as it should by keeping your PC’s drivers up to date.
